What Are Immediate Dentures?
In this video, Remi Berube, DD, explains how immediate dentures work and what patients can expect from the day of extractions through the final, long-term fit.
There are a few different types of dentures. Once your teeth are removed and your gums have fully healed, the dentures you receive are called permanent dentures. Immediate dentures are different. They’re placed the same day your teeth are extracted.
To make an immediate denture, we scan you in advance and design the denture as if the teeth were already gone. On the day of surgery, we remove the teeth and place the denture right away. You leave the office with a full smile and never have to go without teeth.
Over the next 4–6 months, as your gums and bone heal, we will continue adjusting that denture to keep it fitting properly. At the end of the healing period, we place a permanent reline to ensure a secure final fit.
