How Do I Clean My Implant Denture?
In this video, Remi Berube, DD, explains how to properly clean implant-supported dentures and why the routine differs depending on whether your restoration is removable or fixed.
Cleaning implant-supported dentures can vary slightly depending on the type you have.
For snap-on/snap-off dentures:
You’ll remove the denture and clean around the implants with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Then place the denture in your cleaning unit with a denture tablet and run it for 3–5 minutes. After the cycle finishes, rinse the denture well. As long as your gums and the implant posts are clean, you can put it back in.
For fixed implant prostheses:
These can’t be removed at home, so the cleaning routine needs to change. Use a Waterpik and flossers to get underneath the prosthesis as best you can. Brush the restoration with a soft-bristle toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste.
Whether you have a snap-on denture or a fixed bridge, it’s important to come in every three to six months so we can remove the prosthesis in the office, clean the implants, and professionally clean and polish the restoration.
