Why Should Missing Teeth Be Replaced?
In this video, Dr. Jack Booth explains why replacing missing teeth matters more than most people realize and how it can affect not just your mouth, but your confidence and quality of life over time.
Teeth and bone are constantly changing. When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth begin to drift into the space, and the opposing tooth can move down or up into it. At the same time, the jawbone in that area starts to shrink because it’s no longer being used. Over time, this can make it harder to place implants safely, especially near important structures like nerves.
When you replace a missing tooth with an implant, the bone grows and stabilizes around the implant. That helps prevent future bone loss and keeps the neighboring teeth where they belong.
Beyond the functional reasons, replacing missing teeth has major everyday benefits. It improves speech, boosts confidence, and restores your ability to chew comfortably. We see emotional moments all the time, and they completely change how patients feel about themselves. They often tell us they can pronounce certain sounds better, eat the foods they’ve been avoiding, or feel confident dating again.
It takes some work to get there, but the outcome is almost always overwhelmingly positive. That transformation is one of the main reasons I love doing this kind of dentistry.
