What Is a Piezotome Cube?
In this video, Dr. Jack Booth explains how a specialized extraction tool allows teeth to be removed more gently while preserving bone that’s critical for future implants and cosmetic results.
This tool, called a Peizotome, is a small device with a thin blade that’s cooled with water. The blade slides between the tooth and the surrounding bone. Instead of grinding away bone with a bur, the blade gently separates the tooth from the ligament that holds it in place (the periodontal ligament).
By slowly working the blade down along the root and moving it up and down, the tooth loosens naturally. Once it’s freed, we simply grasp it and remove it with very minimal force. It’s a much gentler, less traumatic way to perform an extraction.
This technique is especially valuable for front teeth, where preserving the bone is critical for aesthetics. It takes a little longer than using a bur, but it maintains far more bone, which is important for implants and cosmetic outcomes.
It’s a great tool for cases where bone preservation is particularly important.
